So disgusting: Chiang Mai garbage

Last week…..
I am on the footpath while I am walking to the book store on Suthep road. Something strikes my eyes, look like a mountain on the footpath and smell badly. Garbage bags obstruct the way I am walking. It is more than 3 days that the garbage collectors don’t keep it out the way. Every morning, they will take that garbage for throwing away, but they don’t.

You will see what I see like this around Chiang Mai city. If you don’t believe me, you can notice it. Garbage disposal in Chiang Mai is major problem some days our rubbish didn’t even get picked up, and then the stray dogs ripped the bags open. And who cleaned it up? Me or you. So disgusting!

I said that it is major problem because garbage can decreases a good atmosphere of Chiang Mai city. You imagine that if tourist from other country visit CM and think that they will satisfy with a good atmosphere of CM but, they see mountain of garbage. What happened?

The problems of garbage disposal are the province’s growth, both in economic and social term, has brought many problems to the city. Particularly the garbage piled up by the residents. Meanwhile, the rising number of visitors has aggravated the problem somewhat. More over, industrial enterprises are also factors which have added garbage volume to the city.

I wander Chiang Municipality cannot deal with the problem of mounting quantities of garbage from the expansion of build-up households around the city. Also industrial waste pollution from industrial waste mostly contains toxic substances and chemical.

I don’t why they are not rapidly solve this problem because it is continuing problem in the big city like Chiang Mai. So I want the local government should concern about this issue because a lot of garbage can causes many problems such as atmosphere of the city or people healthy. Least but not last, please stopping to throw away garbage to another province because it cannot solve the core problem. So think about it!

I know exactly what you talking about. Beside the Doi Suthep tourist also have to see the Doi Garbage when they visit Chiang Mai. This might not be the best picture to see.
I think Chiang Mai still far from the dream of being super town. AT least they have the place to dump all the trash in Bangkok.
I used to visit Singapore and one thing that impress me the most is amount of garabge. It's almost zero. Sinapore goverment is strictly control their citizen espacilly the gabage problem.
So is it time for us to do the same thing ? When giving plain and friendly warning is does not work maybe we choose use to law to enfroce our own people ?
For some reason I feel like we all have to go back to the schooling system where the teacher told us exacly to do or not to do anything. Is that what we really want ?

What do you think if we turn those dumps of garbages into something useful like energy.I think Chaing Mai Municipality is in a process of doing this kind of thing.

what we can do to solve this problem? Think carefully, the cause of garbage problem is everyone in the society. We create lots of garbage everyday. We should help to reduce the amount of garbage in our house so there will be less garbages to deal with.I agree with Chaiyot that we should go back to the school system but in another way. Many schools are now working on their projects about recycling their garbages. They set up garbage bank in school and run the process of recycle system. I think this kind of project is very useful.Students are used as a medium to inform and adapt the idea of recycle to their family members. If this kind of idea spread everywhere in this society, I think the problem of garbage will be better. Let's start solving garbage problem from ourselves.

Sometimes I think why other countries are so green, they are also developing or developed countries. Many population, so they are many waste to eliminate like us. I think it is about the management and the habit of people. Other countries may have a great affective arrangement on their garbage cleanliness system. But, most of thing that I like is about their awareness that they have been instilled. For instance, Japan has such an effective system to manage it rubbish. It set up the schedule of the wasting day and people must categorize it. So it becomes a habit of Japanese.
Can Thailand do like this? Possibly, it will be coming soon!
